Cheap ISPs

The four categories of dial up Internet Providers. (Continued from previous page.)

Cheap ISPs, also called Value Priced ISPs, are the fastest growing ISP segment... for a simple reason. Price.

As noted on the previous page, Value Priced ISPs don't supply toll-free tech support (with some exceptions). This savings in staff is passed on to users. Full technical support is available 24/7 online.

This seems to suit most people just fine, witness the huge growth of NetZero and other low-cost nationwide providers. (NetZero has over 4 million subscribers, making it the largest low priced ISP by far.)

Bottom Line:
If you aren't new to computers and don't mind dealing with tech support online, this is the logical option.

An important point that we'd like to make, so there shouldn't be a misconception...

The quality of surfing the web does not depend on whether you use a high priced or low priced provider.

While there are lousy services around - which is something you have to be careful about when choosing a new provider - this has nothing to do with price.

There are high priced services that have slow connections and frequent disconnects. And there are many very low priced services that have solid, reliable service.
